Music Blog
Just a feed of albums (and maybe the occasional performance, EP, etc) that I'll try to update as I'm enjoying them.
Spontaneous Music Live
SML

I've seen SML twice now and listened to a few other performances online. Their first two albums blended chopped up snippets of their live shows with overdubs, blurring the lines between the original performance and what's been added after the fact. To contrast that with a long set of only 2 "songs" showcases another side of the group, while also showing a little bit how the previous sausages were made. Only the first song "Roundabouts" has been released as a near 25 minute "single", but I anticipate this being a favorite album of the year, much like last year's How You Been. There's a simulataneous patience and urgency to the performance, building up a groove from a lone sequencer into a rippling current that ebbs and flows the whole time.

Setting

A starting point of lots of synths and trance-like polyrhythms would already be enough to satisfy me, but the additional texture added by including banjo in the mix is what gives these sounds more depth and elevates the music further.
