Introducing the links blog

It's been a minute since an update, but with the weather finally breaking into proper spring, it's time to come out of hibernation with some site updates.
It's easy to be dismayed sometimes at the homogenization of certain online forums caused by the flattened user interfaces of social media. Nevertheless, the internet is vast. Sometimes that never-ending firehouse of information feels overwhelming, as evidenced by the constant pile of browser tabs I'm accumulating on a daily basis. At the same time, that tab pile wouldn't be growing if I ddn't feel like there was so much I want to read and discover.
Some of my favorite blogs add to this pile with regular links posts themselves. I'm thinking of examples like:
- Longtime classic blogs like kottke.org and marginal revolution.
- More recent personal discoveries like Ben Werdmuller, who shares lots of great links related to open source journalism, civic tech, and more.
- My pal Chase has a more minimalist version of this on his website which he calls a "linked list" (cute, but also a little triggering for those of us that have ever had to suffer through a CS Data Structures course).
- An old colleague has a great links blog that's part of a larger notes site he generates from an obsidian vault.
- Prolific programmer and blogger Simon Willison has another longtime blog with links posts dating back to 2003!
In that tradition, I'm gonna start trying to post more sporadic link shares. It takes the pressure off of including a bunch of them in more formal posts like updates and week/month/some-amount-of-time-passing notes. I want to eventually aggregate this into a more varied feed that includes books and movies, too, but links feel like a good starting point. You can find them here.
